Closed to traffic for two years, Cap Skirring airport will welcome its first international flight on December 5, 2021. The reception of this flight follows the rehabilitation of this airport by the AIBD Sa, as part of the Rehabilitation Program of Senegal Airports (PRAS), launched by the President of the Republic, Macky Sall in 2018. The ceremony to be organized for this purpose will be chaired by the Minister of Tourism and Air Transport, Mr. Alioune SARR.
This moment, eagerly awaited by the populations of Casamance, particularly those involved in tourism, will be punctuated by festivities to reserve a colorful welcome to tourists on board this flight. Thus, all facets of the culture of Casamance will be revisited.
Started on September 17, 2021, after the merger between AIBD SA and ADS, the work concerned the repair of the airstrip, horizontal signage and the creation of a taxiway. The Director General of AIBD SA, Doudou KA had decided that this work be carried out within a short timeframe to save the tourist season and restore Cap Skirring to its true vocation. This objective has been achieved. Today, Cap Skirring airport has a new look and is ready to welcome its guests in excellent conditions.
In a second phase, the reconstruction of the terminal and the widening of the runway are planned, in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic, Macky SALL, who wants to make Senegal an air and tourist hub by 2035.
